Chanel's annual Through Her Lens luncheon is one of my favorite events of the year, not only because it's so well-attended and for a terrific purpose, supporting women filmmakers, but also because it's simply so democratic: If you are a woman who's project has been accepted at Tribeca, you are invited to this event for an opportunity to network with other women at every stage of their careers. You can feel that enthusiasm in this room, and after covering the event for several years, it's also incredibly fulfilling to watch how women make the leap from aspiring filmmakers to accomplished filmmakers who, partly thanks to this event, have gone on to produce full-length features getting attention at festivals across the country.
