I grew up with Barbie, and am confident that she’s the reason why I became interested in being a fashion journalist, so when HarperCollins was seeking a ghostwriter to tell Carol Spencer’s story as one of Barbie’s best-known designers, I knew I wanted that job. Several conversations with Carol later, I indeed was selected as the ghostwriter for her story, Dressing Barbie: A Celebration of the Clothes That Made America’s Favorite Doll and the Incredible Woman Behind Them, which debuted right around Barbie’s 60th birthday. It was such a pleasure to spend time with Carol and learn her incredible history as one of Barbie’s earliest designers, and who continues today to be one of the most respected in the history of this iconic doll.
