Among all the escapist fun of Downton Abbey, the follow-up film to the wildly successful BBC/PBS series, one of the great details was the work costume designer Anna Robbins put into recreating Queen Mary’s legendary Vladimir Tiara, seen in the film when King George V and Queen Mary pay a (fictional) visit to Downton Abbey.
For The Hollywood Reporter’s Style site, Robbins, who also designed costumes for the TV series, shares all the details of sourcing jewelry for the film, including three genuine Victorian- and Edwardian-era tiaras loaned to the production and also couldn’t hide her delight at seeing her costume designs “meters high” on a cinema screen vs. inches high on a TV screen.
