On April 3rd, 2019, Doris Day celebrated her 97th birthday; we didn’t know it would be her last, but on her birthday she would occasionally grant limited interviews, and such was the case this year, when she consented to answer a few questions for me for The Hollywood Reporter. An unabashed classic-film fan, I was thrilled with this opportunity, never knowing it might not happen again. Ms. Day answered most of my questions and offered new insight when it came to her thoughts on costume design, her devotion to her foundation, which focuses on care for animals, and her favorite film.
